ALR016 – Children Killing Children

In this week’s episode Sergeant Bill talks about how and why you should get started shooting IDPA, we try to put the best construction on the most bizarre article from the Huffington Post which suggests that you have a right to own guns, but not a right to use them for self-defense, and we discuss an article’s deceptive use of the term “children” in Clinging to God and Guns with Pastor John Bennett.

Putting the Best Construction on It
The Huffing and Puffington Post is running a series of blog posts by a dyslexic, communist, Bernie-Bot supporter named Justin Curmi, which purports to revise the bill of rights. Amazon reviewers call his self-published book about the virtues of communism a “trainwreck” and this series of posts is no better. The Second Amendment, Curmi says, grants us the right to own and “stockpile” guns. The main issue he has is with self-defense because it imposes on a person's Fourth Amendment right to a fair trial. You have a right to bear arms, he says, just not in self-defense. He also suggests that your “mental capacity” is a major factor in allowing you to have a firearm. He says the purpose of the Bill of Rights is to ensure domestic tranquility, but there can be no tranquility if you don't have “capacity” whatever that means. I'm concerned about his capacity, to be honest.

Ballistic Minute with Sergeant Bill
If you've been thinking about getting started in IDPA, Sergeant Bill has tips to help you get going. International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) is a scenario-based, action shooting sport. Why do people shoot IDPA? The people. The comraderie. The ability to practice your skills and improve your shooting and gun handling with your carry gear in realistic situations. If you've been thinking about it, just do it. You'll be hooked.

Clinging to God and Guns
This week we look at an article by reverend Tim Ahrens called “Children Killing Children, Part II,” at the website of the Dominican Sisters of Peace. The author suggests that every “senseless act of gun violence” is a child killing another child. It's is a child of God killing another child of God. But this is a very loose definition of both “child” and “child of God.”

Prayer of the Week
O God our Father, from whom all good things do come, grant to us, Your humble servants, that by Your holy inspiration we may think those things that be right and by Your merciful guiding may perform them; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Our Closing Theme A rockin' rendition of A Mighty Fortress is Our God, performed just for Armed Lutheran Radio by Kenny Gates.
