ALR026 – The Dallas Massacre

I was on vacation in North Carolina last week and had a “best of” episode planned. Then the massacre in Dallas happened. I share my thoughts on Dallas and the fraud of #BlackLivesMatter. Lessons on how to deal with police during a traffic stop. And thoughts on being a black cop in America from a post by Palm Beach County Police Officer Jay Stalien.

Our prayers go out to the victims of the Dallas massacre and to all our men and women in blue who form the thin blue line between civilization and savagery. God bless you.

My Thoughts on Dallas
I was in North Carolina last week, visiting family and I was away from the Armed Lutheran Studio so I was planning to air a kind-of best-of show this week. That idea went out the window on Thursday night in Dallas.

I got a text from my wife at 9:48 eastern with a screen capture of a Facebook post showing a Dallas police officer face down in the street. My heart sank. Police officers in Dallas, protecting Black Lives Matter protesters, were ambushed in a calculated attack by black men who hated whites, and white cops in particular. 20 minutes later I finally heard from Sgt. Bill that he and his wife were OK. The police ran toward the gunfire to protect people who hate them as those people ran for cover and looked to the police for help. As the night wore on and the news got worse and worse. Five officers dead. Eleven wounded. Two innocent civilians wounded. Several suspects in custody. One finally was surrounded then blown up by a remote controlled robot. I’m heartbroken. Society is on the brink of collapse. The barbarians are not at the gates. They are inside. They are among us. Pray for Dallas. Pray for our first-responders all across the country as they put on the badge and face an increasingly hostile nation. Pray for the future of our nation. Then go out and buy a gun, some ammo, and get trained.

Tips for Dealing with Police
Thanks to the recent spate of police officers targeted by black men, police are going to be extra vigilant when approaching black males. So, how do you make sure the situation doesn't get out of hand or escalate? You have to create a non-threatening environment for the officer. You want to make sure that at no time does the officer feel that his life is in danger. Here's how.

  1. When the officer blue-lights you, signal, slow down and pull off the road as quickly as possible.
  2. Pull off the road as far as possible, so the officer has room to approach you without stepping into traffic.
  3. If you are listening to music, to quote Chris Rock, “turn that shit off.”
  4. Some recommend turning your car off. That certainly cannot hurt.
  5. Stay in your car.
  6. If you have darkened windows, roll them down on the side from which the officer(s) approach.
  7. If it's at night, turn on the cabin lights inside.
  8. Treat the officer with respect.
  9. Keep your hands visible when the officer approaches.
  10. Have your license and registration handy when the officer comes to the window.
  11. If you have a CHL or LTC, present it to the officer with your license.
  12. Once you have handed the officer your IDs, return your hands to the steering wheel.
  13. If you are filming the encounter, politely inform the officer
  14. Know the law and do not refuse any lawful command. Respectfully comply.
  15. Do not refuse an unlawful command in a confrontational manner.

Being a Black Cop in America
I came across a powerful post on Facebook, and I wanted to share this with you. It’s from a Palm Beach County police officer named Jay Stalien. This young man gets it. He’s got a compelling story to tell and he backs it up with facts and statistics. But beyond the stats, it’s heartbreaking.

“My own fellow black men and women attacking me, wishing for my death, wishing for the death of my family. I was so confused, so torn, I couldn’t understand why my own black people would turn against me, when every time they called…I was there. Every time someone died…I was there. Every time they were going through one of the worst moments in their lives…I was there. So why was I the enemy?”

Prayer of the Week
O God, whose never-failing providence orders all things both in heaven and earth, we humbly implore You to put away from us all hurtful things and give to us those things that be profitable for us; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.
