Gun Violence is Not an Epidemic
The top two killers in the United States, by far, are heart disease and cancer. Combined they kill over 1.2 million people every year. Gun homicide is a a 50-year low, and doesn't even rank in the top 20. So why do we keep hearing about the “epidemic” of gun violence?

Ballistic Minute with Sergeant Bill
Sgt. Bill talks about the steps involved in performing a slide-lock, or emergency reload. How to make it smoother and how to make it a subconscious act so that, when you need to do it, you just do it without thinking.

Aaron Israel of Fundamental Defense
I'm travelling this week and Aaron Israel of Fundamental Defense has an excellent segment about travelling light and how important that is for self-defense. Lugging around heavy baggage can hinder your ability to defend yourself.

Clinging to God and Guns
This week's, Pastor Bennett and I take on a bizarre article from Sojourners, which is a Christian group, shaped by the social justice battles of the 1970s. The author is frustrated by the lack of dialog on the issue of guns. And by dialog he clearly means the unwillingness of gun owners to see things his way. He thinks our deeply held belief in individual liberty means we worship our guns instead of God. He rejects gun ownership for self defense on the grounds that (1) guns which are not designed for hunting animals are designed for killing humans, (2) he think's St. Augustine's Just War Doctrine was idiotic because you can't use a gun for defense (since you can't shoot enemy bullets out of mid-air). Strap your helmet on and take a seat on the short bus because this one is a doozy.

Prayer of the Week
Lord God, You order the nations under heaven according to Your will; we praise You for Your patience with our nation and the mercy You have shown her in the past. Bless her in this coming year with leaders who fear You, and guide us into Your just and wise ways. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.

Our Closing Theme A rockin' rendition of A Mighty Fortress is Our God, performed just for Armed Lutheran Radio by Kenny Gates.
